Auto-Restacking Robot for Injection Moulding Machine
A custom industrial robot for automated mould removal and restacking from an injection moulding machine — eliminating manual handling and reducing cycle downtime.
Project Overview
Designed and delivered a custom industrial robot for automated mould removal and restacking from an injection moulding machine — eliminating manual handling and reducing cycle downtime.
Built around an STM32 microcontroller running RTOS, the system orchestrates 8 stepper motors simultaneously with precise coordinated motion — ensuring smooth, collision-free pick-and-place sequences across multiple axes. Real-time task scheduling via RTOS guarantees deterministic motor control and sensor response, critical for repeatable positional accuracy in a production environment. Limit switches define hard mechanical boundaries for each axis, while proximity sensors handle mould detection and confirmation at pick and place positions.
An HMI display gives operators full visibility and control — cycle configuration, manual jog, and fault status — without requiring any external tooling. Firmware written entirely in C++ manages motion profiles, sensor arbitration, and safety interlocks within a structured RTOS task architecture.
